K-Active Taping

History of the K-Active Taping

Kinesiology Tape was developed in the 80’s by the Japanese concern Nitto Denko Corp. in collaboration with the Japanese chiropractor Kenzo Kase and it has been used for the method ‘Kinesiology Taping’ (also known as 'Kinesio Taping'). The application techniques have been evolved out of kinesiology tests and thus they were responsible for the name of material and therapy.
The aim should be to support the regulation and self-healing mechanisms of the human body by using the tape in order to optimize therapeutic results. In this method it is important to implement a holistic assessment (examination). K-Active enhanced it and tries to collect as many information about this method as possible to develop a theoretic mindset. What is special about this method is to let the body confirm these acquired ‘possible causes’. Thereby a sensory testing stimulus by the therapist’s hand is used to symbolize the changes by the tape.
Via the stimuli that are positively felt by the body the key points as well as the kind of application can be defined. This approach outclasses the standardized applications operated by medical doctors and therapists – because only the body knows itself and only the body can heal.

Definition of K-Active Taping

K-Active Taping consists of several equal proportions. A holistic assessment (see above) is the base on which, in most cases, therapeutic applications by doctors or therapists follow. By the use of K-Active Tapes the treatment is completed to improve the results.
The crux for optimal results of K-Active Taping is the coaction and interplay of all therapeutic compounds.

Objectives of K-Active Taping

The main objective of K-Active Taping is to support the body’s own performance and healing processes by a specific material respectively by the appropriate application technique. After long-term experience of the medical staff, the Taping promotes the natural self-healing capabilities of the body and supports or optimizes the joint function, inter alia. The medical staff also reports that the K-Active Taping can contribute to an improvement of the proprioception and the muscular activation by enhanced neuronal networking.
Thus it represents a possible base for the prophylaxis of injuries and improvement of performance in sports as well as for a faster healing after injuries or surgery.

Implementation and fields of application

The therapeutic experience for decades shows that K-Active Taping can successfully be applied in prophylaxis, for all pain problems and for postoperative and posttraumatic status. These different sections are, for example, orthopedics, sports physiotherapy, lymphology, neurology, internal medicine, gynecology, obstetrics or pediatrics.

Following examples show application fields, in which the tapes are used in everyday work according to statements of doctors and therapists:
Pain, restricted movements, functional dysfunctions, sport injuries, arthrosis, problems with spine and intervertebral discs, muscle tensions, ischialgia, problems with SIJ, posture weakness, headache, migraine, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), carpal tunnel syndrome, lymphedema, palsy, polyneuropathy, menstrual cramps, back-formation and after-care after childbirth, urinary incontinence and much more.

Comfort and duration

The therapeutic experience for decades shows that K-Active Tape gets felt as not disturbing after already a view minutes thanks to the material characteristics and the correct application. Activities of everyday life, like work, sports and leisure, aren’t restricted by the tape, but rather supported. Due to the water-repellent material it is possible to take a shower or a bath without any problems; the application has not to be changed.
The main impact of K-Active Taping is estimated for the first three till five days after application. Often medical staff notices a positive effect related to the symptoms after a longer application period. Allergic reactions are rarely recorded and often caused by previous or current taking of medication or by enhanced alcohol and nicotine consumption. In these cases the skin assumes its additional task as ‘excretion organ for poisonous substances’ and accordingly reacts more sensitive to the tape.

Wrong application techniques can also lead to negative reactions of the body. For this reason, the tape application should be applied by a trained, medical expert respectively the patient or athlete has to be instructed.
For exceptionally sensitive skin, the products K-Active Tape Gentle and K-Active Tape Elite have been developed on base of the STRATAGEL® adhesive technology. This adhesive innovation does not cause allergic reactions and it dissolves in itself during removal. Thus, few skin particles are removed.
For more mechanical effects in taping you can resort to the K-Active Tape Sport with reduced elasticity.

Function and effect of K-Active Taping

The therapeutic fundament of K-Active Taping is the holistic method of approach of the human body with its various networking via structures like skin, fascia, muscles and meridians.
The K-Active Tape is based on the characteristics of the skin and thereby transmits seemingly ‘positive’ sensory information to our body.
Therapy and central applications, for example in the area of chest and stomach, can already lead to general improvements of the body systems (‘Body Conditioning’) and seem to serve as base for the auto-reparative processes in the human body. Local application techniques in the area of the disturbed structure can follow, if necessary. A repeated implementation of the test has to confirm the correctness of the application.

Doctors and therapists explain that the positive results of K-Active Taping depend on the support of variable functions in the human body.

These pictures show that, for example, the resorption of the hematoma seems to proceed faster underneath the tails of the K-Active Tape.

In the doctoral thesis of Marcin Krajczy a clear pain reduction has been recorded due to the use of the tapes after a gallbladder operation.

Some experts are committed to this method of treatment, but they only represent a small group of people with dissent opinion. A doubtless scientific verification of the effectivity does not exist.
